Women have proven their importance at home as well as in the workplace. Whether breaking the glass ceiling or managing the home, women do it all.

Amidst all the hustle and bustle women habitually deal with, we often forget to take care of ourselves. The need to be available 24*7 affects our mental health. Having to do it all sometimes leaves us with no time or strength left for ourselves.

All women, working or homemakers, need to make their mental health a priority. It’s important to realize that we are the first responders to any emergency, whether at home or at work. Let’s read up on how women can take an occasional break to recharge :

Schedule our me time :

This can be done for about half an hour a day. It can be given to a cup of tea/coffee or sit in the porch to simply look at the clouds (no phone calls / social media).

Cuddle a pet :

Relax for 5 minutes by cuddling with a cat or dog. We'll surely feel better.

Talk to a friend :

This doesn't have to have an agenda, just some random chat or catching up.

Get up and stretch :

We can get up from the desk and walk around the block or up and down a flight of stairs.

Just breathe deeply :

We can do this anytime, anywhere. While we're sitting in our office, car, or home, we can focus on breathing slowly and gently for 5 minutes. It's okay if the mind wanders a bit, but we don't need to start planning what we have to do next – we’ll just notice the breath.

Music cheers us up :

We can put on our earphones and hit play and maybe go for a brisk walk.

Read :

If we have 15-20 minutes we can read a chapter of a book we've always wanted to. We can keep some items in the office or living room like a good book, magazine, crossword puzzle, or other short escapes.

Giving time to ourselves on a consistent basis allows us to be happier. It also prevents the build-up of stress and anxiety which is affecting so many women across the world today.
