Impact of adapting positive psychology in our life!

WHAT I’VE UNDERSTOOD ABOUT POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY

My understanding of positive psychology

According to me, positive psychology is a scientific approach studying human thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It focuses on strengths instead of weakness. It helps in building the good instead of repairing the bad. It examines what gives our lives meaning and purpose.

Positive psychology is a field that explorers how ordinary people can become happier and more fulfilled. It does not focus too much on the past. It also does not take a disease-based approach to mental health.

Positive psychology focuses on eudaimonia or ‘good life’ which is a reflection about what holds the greatest value in life. It considers the factors that contribute the most to a well-lived and fulfilling life. It gives due importance to things like family relations, social network, physical exercise, meditation.

How to implement positive psychology in life

Happiness is influenced by genetics and upbringing to some extent. But, we can learn to be happier by developing optimism, gratitude and kindness.

Money doesn't buy well-being but spending money on others for a good cause can make an individual happier and give us a deep, lasting sense of satisfaction.

Some of the best ways to combat disappointment and negativity are to focus on the concept of altruism. Altruism is an act of kindness and selfless concern for others.

Altruism need not only be done by donating millions of dollars. It can range from simply holding a door to open for someone, complimenting someone without any agenda, or greeting others with a smile.

It’s very easy, right? Keep improving your own reality and of those around you to live a happier and quality life. You will feel a sense of fulfilment.

This is what I have learnt from positive psychology!

I think the idea that mental health is not just based on disease based approach is important. We need not create a system where we focus on mental health only after things go wrong. All of us have a right to a full, happy life! 🤩🙋
