The Guest House

Vishwa Jani

Poet and writer

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
Some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
Who violently sweep your house
Empty of its furniture,
Still, treat each guest honourably.
He may be clearing you out
For some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
Meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
Because each has been sent
As a guide from beyond.

Translation by Coleman Barks

As the poet said,

Life is a journey of the unknown. We start as an armature and surely will meet many new hurdles, opportunities, and success. What we have to do is constantly work in these good and bad times. We need to remember that everything comes to our path for a reason.

If we pray to our creator for good things then we should trust the creator in bad times. Worrying will not work, neither will giving up. The only choice left is, welcome them wholeheartedly and learn something from them.

Let’s be grateful for dark days as they guide us to the light. Let’s thank the bright days as they give us enough self-esteem and strength to walk in dark.

Nice article. Bed, good, hurdles, sorrows, joy or any situation at some point of time we passed through in life, at the end leads to the ocean of good.
