In every human being, there is a limitless reservoir of power, which can overcome any problem, any obstacle, any challenge and achieve any dream. It’s the power of your subconscious mind.

The classic book "Power of your Subconscious Mind" was written by the legend, Joseph Murphy. It was written over 50 years ago but the concepts explained here are everlasting. This book talks about the extraordinary power of your subconscious mind, a power that helps you control your life.

Honestly, this has been my go-to book over the years. Any moment, I feel any less hopeful or anything less than awesome, it comes to my rescue, and I promise it's life-changing.

Everything that happens to you in your course of life, depends just on two things: Vision and Belief.

For instance: A builder cannot build a building without a vision of what it will look like. So, one of the most important things in life is having a vision, being very specific of how exactly you want your life to be, and the second step is, believe that you will have a life that your desire. If you don’t trust your belief, it obviously won’t become a reality. The biggest obstacle to your success and achievement is your own thought or mental image.

Your subconscious mind doesn’t understand right or wrong or good or bad, only accepts the commands you give them and follows instructions, like computer software.

It works 24 hours a day without interruption. When you say things like “I am fat, I will never be able to lose weight”, your subconscious mind will make sure you will stay that way. Stop calling yourself poor, calling yourself fat, stop calling yourself stupid or that’s what you will end up being.

You must be very careful with what you say to yourself and what you accept as true because your subconscious mind will make sure it creates that for you.

If you have a hard time trusting what I am saying – you can try a little trick yourself - tell your subconscious mind, before you go to sleep, “I want to wake up at 6 A.M” it will wake you at that time. You will be surprised by the power that your mind holds.

Mental techniques to use the power of your subconscious mind

1. The Affirmative Method

To affirm is to state that it is true, regardless of all evidence to the contrary- you will receive an answer to your prayer. Repeating an affirmation leads the mind to that state of consciousness where it accepts that which you state as true.

Keep on affirming things that your desire – “I am confident”, “I am very successful”. Affirming just after you wake up and right before you sleep is very fruitful as, during that time, your mind is in the most powerful state.

2. The “Thank You” Technique

The thankful heart is always close to the creative forces of the universe, causing countless blessings to flow. Say “I am thankful for a beautiful family”. Pre-gratitude is the most powerful force in the universe. When you are already thankful for the thing you want, despite not having it in reality, you depict the amount of faith you have in the universe and faith is the answer to everything.

3. The Sleeping Technique

When you enter a sleepy, drowsy state, the effort is reduced to a minimum. In this state, negative thoughts are not present.

Suppose you want to get rid of a destructive habit. Assume a comfortable posture, relax your body, and get into a sleepy state, and in that sleepy state, say quietly, repeatedly as a lullaby, “I am completely free from this habit; harmony and peace flourish in my life”.

Repeat the above slowly, quietly, and lovingly for five or ten minutes, night and morning. Each time you repeat the words the emotional value becomes greater. When the urge comes to repeat the negative habit, repeat the above formula out loud to yourself. By this means you induce the subconscious to accept the idea and healing follows.

4. Mental Movie Method

The Chinese say, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” William James, the father of American psychology, stressed the fact that the subconscious mind will bring to pass any picture held in the mind and backed by faith.

Act as though I am, and I will be. Create a mental movie of what you what to manifest, visualize and feel every emotion like it is real (remember you are just watching a movie). If you can accurately create a mental image and the flow of what you want, your mind will realize your desire and turn it into reality.

5. The Visualization Technique

The easiest and most obvious way to formulate an idea is to visualize it, to see it in your mind's eye as vividly as if it were alive. You can see with the naked eye only what already exists in the external world; similarly, what you can visualize in your mind's eye already exists in the world. The idea and the thought are real and will one day appear in your objective world if you are faithful and have trust in your mental image.

The author mentions a great example from his own practice - he uses the visualization technique prior to speaking on his platform on Sundays. He calms his mind and visualizes that every person in the audience is illuminated, inspired, and is healing, then he releases the whole picture and goes onto the platform and almost every Sunday when he holds his sessions, some people stop by and say that their prayers were answered.

Potential reasons for failure of techniques

Let's discuss the reason why the techniques could potentially fail - so you can avoid them from the very outset.

The principal reasons for failure are - lack of confidence and too much effort. The author always says throughout the book: “easy does it”. It’s an effortless process, all you must do is ask, believe, and let it go to ultimately receive.

Failure can easily come from negative suggestions and doubts repeated over and over with intensity and emotion, as: “Things are getting worse”, “I will get no answer”, “It is hopeless”. Reject any negative suggestions about yourself and refuse to give them any attention or power. Whenever you find yourself having a negative thought, immediately neutralize it. For example – when you feel “I am dumb”, immediately break the chain and say, “I am so smart”.

If you do not believe what you are saying to yourself - There was an example of a person repeating “I am wealthy” for weeks and nothing happened, things got worse, as she said. The problem is the conflict; the person doesn’t use feeling and doesn’t believe what is repeating. Inside of herself, she is thinking “Who are you kidding?”. You can say a neutral affirmation like “By day and by night I am being flourished in all of my interest”.

Be bold enough to claim that it is your right to be rich and your subconscious mind will honor your claim. If you are facing difficulties in any area of life, it means you have not convinced your subconscious mind that you will ALWAYS have plenty of what you desire. To achieve any of your desires, you have to first believe that you deserve every bit of it and more.

I have been an admirer of the law of attraction and the power of the subconscious mind, ever since I remember. I have seen a lot of successful people practicing and propagating the same. This book has always helped me in my personal life to feel hopeful and have faith in the universe, and I promise it's worth every minute that you'll spend reading it.
