Let’s discuss some valuable strategies to accelerate the learning process for students. These strategies will also be helpful to adult learners.

1) It has been scientifically proven that we can maintain optimum focus on the subject we are learning only for up to 25 minutes. So, it is better to work in small sessions of intense focus. We can take a short break of 5 to 10 minutes between our sessions (Caution: we are not supposed to use our mobile devices or watch TV during the break). It would be excellent to do a small workout for 5 minutes in between our 20 to 25-minute sessions. We can do something like skipping or just walking. Our brain would find that very refreshing. Very long study sessions are usually unproductive.

2) We have to be disciplined about our environment. We need to remove all the distractions from our surroundings so that we can concentrate during our session. Let us also remember that a regular meditation practice will tremendously improve our concentration power. Increased ability to concentrate on the task at hand is one of the many benefits of a regular meditation practice.

3) It is better to study in the early hours of the morning when we have a fresh mind. If our learning process is so important to us, why would we wait until the end of the day when we are feeling exhausted, to study? Not to mention there are generally no distractions before 7 am.

4) Lastly, let us remind ourselves that studying is like any other discipline in life – it requires us to take a holistic approach, so we have to factor in diet, rest, exercise and our over-all well being. We are in training right now and that means we have to train our body, mind, and soul so we can perform at our highest level.
